Highlights

What changed in 0.2.0.

Founder Access licensing

  • Improved Founder Access grant refresh and replacement-license cleanup.
  • Added startup license validation before document features unlock.
  • Validated 14-day offline grace behavior.

Search and release readiness

  • Improved exact filename, title, and document search ranking.
  • Added release packaging, updater details, and publishing hardening.
  • Included focused regression and release-candidate verification coverage.

Supported file types

Supported now: PDF, DOCX, JPG, JPEG, PNG.

MemoRay imported PDFs, Word documents, and common image files: PDF, DOCX, JPG, JPEG, and PNG. Text reading ran locally on your device. Unsupported file types were skipped during Import review and did not block supported files from importing.

Trust and privacy boundaries

MemoRay processed imported documents, text reading, search, and Ask MemoRay locally on your Windows device. Document content was not uploaded for search or answering.

Network access was used for Founder Access license activation, license validation, app update checks, and support forms you chose to submit.

Diagnostics stored locally — sharing not enabled.

Protected Documents

  • Set a Protected Documents password inside MemoRay.
  • Protected import was blocked until a protected-documents password existed.
  • MemoRay made clear when a protected-documents password was set or cleared.
  • Unlock was required before changing Protected documents to Standard.

Founder Access and activation

Founder Access was required. When an approved Founder Access download was available, users installed MemoRay for Windows, then activated MemoRay inside the app with the email address and license key sent to them.

Scope

What was not included in this release.

Deferred or unavailable

  • Notes or in-app notes.
  • Cloud sync.
  • Mobile app.
  • Multi-user collaboration.
  • Online LLM features.
  • Email, scanner, audio, or video import claims outside the supported-file canon.
  • Unsupported file types outside the supported-file canon.

Known limitations

  • MemoRay started with Windows. Future platform priorities would be shaped by early user feedback and demand.
  • Supported file types were limited to PDF, DOCX, JPG, JPEG, and PNG in the Founder Access Import flow.
  • Unsupported files were skipped during Import review.
  • MemoRay included local text reading for scanned PDFs and images. Standard documents usually worked best. Some low-quality scans, rotated cards, IDs, passports, membership cards, business cards, and handwriting-heavy images could be classified less precisely or could miss structured details. Review the source document when accuracy matters.
  • Encrypted or malformed DOCX files were rejected.
  • Changing the MemoRay storage folder did not move existing data automatically.
  • Finish active imports before changing the MemoRay storage folder.
  • Internet access was required for Founder Access activation, periodic license validation, and update checks.
  • Protected documents used a password created locally inside MemoRay. Founder Access license keys were for activation only. RayAI/MemoRay could not recover that password; if it was forgotten, remove the current MemoRay workspace and import documents again before setting a new password. Original files outside MemoRay were not deleted.
  • MemoRay was signed by RayAI LLC. Because MemoRay was new, Microsoft Edge or Windows Defender SmartScreen could still show a warning while reputation built.
