MemoRay Founder Access for Windows 0.5.0

Text-family imports, continuous review, clearer search and source navigation, and encrypted storage for retained content derived from Protected documents.

These versioned release notes are preserved for reference.

Upgrading from an earlier version

A normal supported in-place update is designed to preserve imported documents, saved details and settings without routine reimporting. When upgrading from a previous version to MemoRay 0.5.0, MemoRay may request a Protected-storage check, the current Protected Documents password and an app restart. Keep original files and the password, and do not remove the workspace or downgrade during the update.

When a Protected-storage check is requested:

  1. Follow the app guidance and enter the current Protected Documents password if requested.
  2. Keep originals and the password; preserve the workspace.
  3. Restart the application if requested.

Choose Uninstall before installing when Setup detects the older app. Leave Delete the application data unchecked so the local workspace, imported library, and settings are preserved.

Continue with the default user-local install folder unless you intend to change it. Leave Run MemoRay selected when Setup finishes.

Highlights

What changed in 0.5.0.

Read the complete 0.5.0 change details

Import and continuous review

Supported imports include PDF, DOCX, JPG/JPEG, PNG, plain text (.txt, .text, .log), Markdown (.md, .markdown), reStructuredText (.rst), AsciiDoc (.adoc, .asciidoc), and Org (.org). Text markup is inert: commands, includes and remote references are not executed or fetched.

Review staged files before processing and continue with supported files when unsupported files are skipped. Continuous Needs attention review provides explicit save and accept actions for uncertain extracted details. Review duplicates and failures; importing a file does not guarantee complete extraction.

Search, Ask and source review

Search labels and excerpts describe the available evidence more clearly, including when related documents do not establish an answer. Ask uses normal page scrolling with pagination and returns to the reading position after source review.

Ask MemoRay provides answers with sources based on matching information in imported documents. Match labels describe the available evidence; they do not guarantee that a source answers the question. Open the source and verify important information before relying on a result.

Protected storage changes

MemoRay stores imported copies, document details, extracted text and search data locally. For documents marked Protected, MemoRay encrypts the saved copy and retained derived content used for search and review, including extracted text, search data and sensitive history. Unlocking is required to search or view it; locked items hide identifying details. Standard content is not protected by the Protected Documents password. Original files outside MemoRay and external backups remain separate. Protection does not defend an already-unlocked device against malware, an administrator or screen capture.

The Protected Documents password is local, separate from the Founder Access license key and unrecoverable by RayAI/MemoRay. Keep the password and original files.

Updating an existing library

A normal supported in-place update is designed to preserve imported documents, saved details and settings without routine reimporting. When upgrading from a previous version to MemoRay 0.5.0, MemoRay may request a Protected-storage check, the current Protected Documents password and an app restart. Keep original files and the password, and do not remove the workspace or downgrade during the update.

Follow the app’s storage-update guidance. Importing, editing, deleting, refreshing and Protected access can pause during exclusive migration work. If a recovery problem is reported, preserve the installation and use the support and recovery guidance. Downgrades are unsupported.

Updating does not automatically reimport, re-OCR or repair malformed titles and details retained from earlier imports. Fresh 0.5.0 imports have improved review handling; older records may still require manual review.

Known limitations and exclusions

Search covers only successfully extracted and indexed information. Low-quality scans, handwriting, rotated cards, complex layouts and OCR-derived details may need manual review. Source-location precision and performance vary by document and device.

The on-device Tesseract/PDFium reading path is used; the experimental Worldclass OCR option is not included. CSV, XLSX, PPTX, standalone JPEG 2000/JP2/J2K and TIFF are not supported imports.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 x64 are supported. There is no Windows ARM64, macOS, Linux or mobile application, cloud document synchronization, multi-device document synchronization or paid checkout.

Known issues in 0.5.0

  • Résumé library questions can miss imported résumés. Use Documents and filter by title, filename, or document type.
  • Reimport can list the selected source twice. Treat identical paths as one location.
  • When upgrading from MemoRay 0.4.0 to 0.5.0, MemoRay can request the Protected Documents password twice. Use the same current password; do not reset the password or delete application data.
  • A retained Founder Access license rejection can be described as a connection problem. Retry once, then reactivate with the approved email and key or contact Support.
  • Show in File Explorer can reveal an older source. Compare the displayed Original source path and open the intended source directly if needed.
  • Transparency can show a stale document count or Protected lock state. Confirm lock state in Settings and use Documents for the accessible library.
  • Clear password can fail after the last Protected document becomes Standard. Leave the password configured; do not reset the workspace or delete documents to clear it.
  • A Protected Documents password field can retain masked characters after unlock. Clear any populated field, then relock or close MemoRay when finished.
  • MemoRay can open behind other windows after setup. Select MemoRay from the Windows taskbar instead of starting another instance.
  • A completed import can leave a stale waiting-status message. Confirm completion counters and Documents before submitting files again.
  • Reset session can leave a prior Import completion displayed as current. Use the reset status message and Documents as the current state, then select Import more for a new batch.
Scope

OCR boundaries and known limitations.

Read OCR boundaries and known limitations

Founder Access OCR boundary

  • Founder Access uses the production Tesseract/PDFium OCR and text-extraction path.
  • The experimental Worldclass OCR option is not included in Founder Access.
  • Text-based and scanned/image-based PDFs are supported; scanned PDFs and images use on-device text reading.
  • Readable, unencrypted DOCX files are supported. Encrypted or malformed DOCX files are rejected.

Known limitations

  • MemoRay includes local text reading for scanned PDFs and images. Standard documents usually work best. Some low-quality scans, rotated cards, IDs, passports, membership cards, business cards, and handwriting-heavy images may be classified less precisely or may miss structured details. Review the source document when accuracy matters.
  • Difficult scans, low-quality images, IDs/cards, complex layouts, and OCR-derived details may require review.
  • OCR-heavy files may process more slowly, especially on weaker consumer machines.
  • Multi-column manuals and PDFs can have imperfect reading order or interleaved text.
  • Search is limited to text MemoRay successfully extracts and indexes.
  • Successful import does not guarantee that every word or structured detail is searchable.
  • Compare generated details and answer evidence with the source preview before using them for important decisions.
Upgrade Guidance

Preserve the local workspace during an update.

Read update guidance

Protected documents use a password created locally inside MemoRay. Founder Access license keys are for activation only. RayAI/MemoRay cannot recover that password; if it is forgotten, remove the current MemoRay workspace and import documents again before setting a new password. Original files outside MemoRay are not deleted.

  • A normal in-place update is intended to preserve existing imported documents, saved details, and settings.
  • Keep original source files and do not uninstall with data removal or manually delete the MemoRay workspace during the update.
  • MemoRay may ask for the Founder Access email and license key once to refresh an older saved activation; this does not remove imported documents.
  • Remember the separate protected-documents password before updating because MemoRay cannot recover it.
  • Downgrades are not supported. Open the MemoRay support form if activation or access does not recover after the update.
